The young woman allegedly victim of sexual assault told the Public Ministry about the difficult moments she is going through, after seeing several videos circulating on social media in which she is seen in a state of unconsciousness, being assaulted by multiple individuals. “I recognized myself in one of the videos. I couldn’t keep watching… I was ashamed,” expressed the victim through tears, in an interview conducted by the authorities. According to the victim’s testimony reported in the case file, the events occurred on the night of March 18. The young woman was invited by an acquaintance, identified as Nayelis, to go out to the “Yorkis” grocery store. There, after consuming a drink served by others, she began to feel unwell and lost consciousness. “The last thing I remember is taking the glass… then I woke up in the hospital. Then they put me on a scooter and then I don’t remember anything else, until I woke up in my bed,” he recounted. When she finally found out about the videos, it was through comments from a neighbor and a cousin, who warned her about the existence of the recordings. One of those videos reached her days later, and upon seeing herself in it, she went into shock. The case has caused great public consternation due to the alleged involvement of at least seven people, some of whom have already been mentioned by name or nickname in the young woman’s testimony. One of them, identified as “Ferere”, is said to have been present at the hospital before taking her on a scooter, after which the victim lost consciousness again. The young woman also expressed her confusion and sadness at the role of those close to her, who did not protect her. In the messages recovered by her mother, one of those present at the scene wrote: “Forgive me, that day I tried to help her, but they took her away. They let me be tricked.” Currently, the victim is receiving psychological support, while her mother and family members have taken on contact with the media and authorities. The family has requested respect for Genesis’s emotional integrity and privacy in this process. The Public Ministry has opened a formal investigation and is gathering evidence and testimonies. According to the file presented by the Public Ministry in the case of the rape of the young woman Génesis Peña, one of those accused remains a fugitive from justice.
