ADOCCO rejects threat from Milagros Ortiz Bosch to submit its president for defamation

SANTO DOMINGO.– The Dominican Alliance Against Corruption (ADOCCO) rejected this Wednesday the warnings of judicial submission for alleged defamation against its president, Julio César De la Rosa Tiburcio, announced by the director of Ethics and Governmental Integrity (DIGEIG), Milagros Ortiz Bosch, after accusations of malfeasance related to the filing of a complaint against the former Minister of Education, Ángel Hernández.

The organization recalled that in October 2023 it reported that Hernandez had hidden in his sworn statement of assets a family company, Constructora Playa Morón, which in September 2022 acquired a property in Las Terrenas, Samaná, for RD$31 million, a month after he took office. According to ADOCCO, the real value of the property would exceed US$4 million and the purchase was made in cash, which, in its view, constitutes an irregularity not in accordance with the income declared by the former official and his family.

ADOCCO maintained that the omission of said company in the sworn statement of assets violates Law 311-14 on Sworn Statements of Assets and Law 155-17 on Money Laundering, for which reason it asked the Public Ministry to investigate and formalize charges against Hernández. The entity assured that it will not be intimidated by Ortiz Bosch’s statements and announced that it will go to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) in search of a precautionary measure to avoid what they call a “misuse of power.” “We will await the submission with the same responsibility with which we accuse you of having acted improperly,” stated ADOCCO, while reiterating that it will continue to denounce public servants who incur irregularities.
