Santo Domingo. – Meteorological analyst Jean Suriel reported this Tuesday that tropical wave number 34 has activated in the last 24 hours, increasing the potential for cyclonic development in the coming days, which could become Storm Gabrielle and subsequently the second hurricane of the season. The expert highlighted that the phenomenon is in the eastern Atlantic and is moving west-northwest at 25 km/h: with this trajectory, it will move towards the central Atlantic at the end of this working week and next week it will approach the northeast of the Lesser Antilles.

Suriel detailed that vigilance is required regarding its evolution and trajectory because forecast models predict its intensification as the seventh storm: the warm waters of the Atlantic will allow it to gain more strength until it becomes a hurricane. The projection of whether it will transit near the Caribbean or whether it will make a journey in the open waters of the Atlantic is not defined. He added that the peak of the Saharan season in the Dominican Republic is over, which is evidenced by the decrease in African particles since last week. Some isolated dust clouds will still arrive in the coming weeks, but the influence of these atmospheric events in the Caribbean will end in the last week of September.
