Jimani.- Members of the Dominican Republic Army (ERD) seized a shipment of 50,000 contraband cigarettes that were being transported in a truck, after a chase that began when the driver tried to evade two military checkpoints. The incident occurred at the Boca de Cachón checkpoint, where a Fuso brand truck, white in color, license plate L4351993, driven by Janser Bocio Mateo, was ordered to stop, who disobeyed the order and fled.

Upon reaching kilometer 8, the vehicle once again ignored the stop sign at the military checkpoint, which led to a chase that concluded on a track, two kilometers from the Los Pinos del Edén Detachment. After inspecting the truck, the soldiers discovered a hidden compartment in the chassis, where 250 packs of Capital brand cigarettes were found, equivalent to the 50,000 units seized, all of foreign origin. The driver was arrested and will be placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry, while the vehicle and the merchandise were placed under custody at the headquarters of the 14th Infantry Battalion of the ERD for the corresponding legal purposes.
