Santo Domingo.- Congressmen valued this Thursday the efforts of President Luis Abinader by sending a letter to China and Russia to support the
Gang Suppression Force in Haiti.

Alcibíades Tavárez endorsed his support for the president’s action given the importance of removing the gangs’ dominance in that country so that they can achieve stability.
“Those gangs must be eradicated by any means necessary, that’s why I agree with that communication that the President of the Republic has made to both China and Russia because
it is vital that Haiti be channeled on another path,” Tavárez pointed out.
Similarly,
Senator María Mercedes Ortiz highlighted Abinader’s responsibility in seeking solutions to the Haitian issue and believes China can help and was hopeful that they will give a positive response to the Dominican Republic’s request.
“There is an urgent need in the Dominican Republic to resolve the issue of Haiti, as China plays a fundamental role and we believe it can help a lot because it has tools that could be an incentive at such an important moment, we have spoken with the ambassador and I believe there will be a positive response,” said the senator.
From his side,
Senator Omar Fernández supported Abinader’s call to those nations and described it as opportune for the well-being of Dominicans.

“That is a very timely call, so given the complex situation in Haiti, I think any effort that can be made in that direction is timely, appropriate, correct and is supported for the well-being of the Dominican Republic,” he added.
President Abinader requested his counterparts from China and Russia to directly support the Gang Suppression Force in Haiti, approved this week at the
UN Security Council. It is recalled that both countries abstained from voting in the Security Council.
The communications, dated September 1, 2025, show that the Dominican government made direct efforts with the two veto-wielding powers, with the purpose of guaranteeing support for the project presented by the United States and Panama.
