Santo Domingo. – The former president of the Republic and president of the Partido de la Liberación Dominicana (PLD), Danilo Medina, announced this Sunday the beginning of a broad internal restructuring process of that political organization, with the purpose of strengthening its territorial structure and moving towards the selection of its next presidential candidate.

The statements were offered during an activity of the Caravana por la Patria 2026, held on George Washington Avenue, where Medina explained that the PLD is in the process of transforming its organizational structure to turn it into a party based on electoral tables and precincts.

He detailed that each organized militant of the PLD will be assigned to an electoral table, a base committee linked to that table, and an intermediate committee corresponding to the electoral precinct, as part of a new model of territorial organization. In that context, Medina pointed out that the organization has decided to move forward in reducing the number of presidential candidates, not through the immediate selection of a candidate, but by defining the profile that should be met by whoever represents the party on the presidential ballot. The political leader informed that the process includes two main stages. The first will be a meeting of the Political Committee, scheduled for February 12, in which the agenda of the Central Committee will be drawn up. Subsequently, this last body will meet to determine which leaders will be officially recognized as presidential candidates of the PLD. Once that process is concluded, the party will set the date for an internal consultation to choose its presidential candidate, who will be formally presented within the deadlines established by electoral law, at the end of October 2027.
