Another of the most tragic road accidents recorded in the region left a balance of five deceased tourists and 47 injured people. San Cristóbal was plunged into mourning in November 2023 after a tragic accident on the Sánchez highway, Quita Sueño sector, Haina, which claimed the lives of ten people and left 17 injured. The accident involved a cement-laden truck and a public passenger transport bus. According to witnesses and images from a surveillance camera, the accident occurred when the truck was descending a slope in a west-east direction and hit the bus as it was boarding a passenger, before 7:00 in the morning. On December 2, 2023, another accident involved a passenger bus and a tractor-trailer in the same area. 12 deaths were confirmed, including the bus driver, Uris Méndez, who was found one day after the accident. On July 20, 2025, a tragic traffic accident on the Moca–Jamao al Norte highway, specifically in the community of La Cabirma, San Víctor municipality, Espaillat province, left a balance of six people dead and more than 40 injured.A bus known as a “Banderita”, which was transporting a group of people returning from an excursion from Río San Juan to Esperanza, lost control in a mountainous area known as La Cumbre. It is presumed that a brake failure caused the vehicle to overturn, ending up across the road.
