Gas cylinder explosion leaves seven injured in San Francisco de Macorís

Duarte.– At least seven people, including two children, were injured following the explosion of a gas cylinder at a fried meat stand located at the intersection of Salcedo Street and Libertad Avenue, in San Francisco de Macorís.

The affected individuals, five adults and two minors, suffered significant burns and were initially treated at the Dr. Ángel María Gatón hospital, where the emergency protocol was activated to stabilize the patients and coordinate their transfer to specialized centers.

The two children, aged five and one, were referred by units of the Directorate of Extra-hospital Emergency Care Services (DAEH) to the burn unit of the Arturo Grullón Regional University Children’s Hospital, in Santiago.

Meanwhile, the director of the San Vicente de Paúl Regional University Hospital, Dr. Oscar Mena, reported that four of the adults will be transferred to the Burn Unit of the Dr. Ney Arias Lora Health City, in Santo Domingo, due to the severity of their injuries, while two others will remain admitted to the Dr. Ángel María Gatón hospital.

According to preliminary reports, the explosion occurred while customers and employees were in the establishment and the gas cylinder burst for reasons that are still being investigated, causing burns to several of the people present.

Following the incident, health authorities and response agencies activated the emergency protocol to provide assistance to the victims and ensure their timely transfer to specialized centers.

The work was supervised by the senator of the Duarte province, Franklin Romero, together with doctors Oscar Mena, director of the San Vicente de Paúl Regional University Hospital, and Rafael Mieses, from the aforementioned health center.

The authorities have not reported, so far, the causes that originated the explosion and are keeping investigations open to clarify the event.
