Russia has released the first batch of its domestically produced vaccine against human papillomavirus (HPV), known as Tsegardex. The vaccine, manufactured by Nanolek, is now available for civilian use in the country, with the first doses expected to reach medical centers by the end of September.
Nanolek CEO Yevgeny Barinov said the initial batch contains 30,000 doses, while the company plans to produce 600,000 doses by the end of the year. He described Tsegardex as Russia’s first domestically produced HPV vaccine and said its rollout would reduce the country’s reliance on foreign supplies.
The vaccine has been authorized for people between 9 and 45 years old and is designed to protect against HPV types 6, 11, 16 and 18, according to the manufacturer. The company said these strains are among the most dangerous types of the virus.
The launch marks a new stage in Russia’s domestic vaccine production, according to Nanolek, which said the vaccine is intended to provide protection against HPV strains associated with serious health risks.
