Santo Domingo.- The accumulated homicide rate in the Dominican Republic has registered a significant reduction of 4.24 points, going from 12.54 per 100,000 inhabitants in 2023 to 8.3 so far in 2025, according to what was reported this Monday by the Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful.
During the 95th follow-up meeting on the Citizen Security Plan, led by President Luis Abinader, Raful highlighted that this reduction represents 129 fewer deaths compared to the same period last year, decreasing from 748 homicides in 2023 to 653 in 2025.
The minister attributed this improvement to the constant operability of the Joint Task Force, a security body created to reinforce surveillance, patrolling, and reaction to criminal acts in the national territory.
Raful indicated that 22 provinces in the country have homicide rates below a single digit, while 12 remain above, marking significant progress in the Government’s goal of reducing violence levels nationwide.
Robberies also down
The Interior and Police Minister also reported a sustained reduction in robbery reports, decreasing from 7,964 cases in 2023 to 6,754 in 2024, and further decreasing to 5,080 so far in 2025. This represents 1,674 fewer cases compared to the previous year and a cumulative decrease of 2,884 crimes, equivalent to 24.8%, with a percentage reduction of 13.2 points.
Regarding the new preventive patrol model, Raful reported that the coverage is running at 100%, involving 1,148 agents deployed in 72 quadrants of four pilot zones, within a plan that will have an initial duration of six months.
He also assured that constant monitoring and evaluation of the program is maintained, as well as interoperability between security forces. Over the past weekend, specialized training was provided to new agents, with emphasis on the progressive use of force and handling of firearms, as part of institutional strengthening.
