Inmate dies after being injured by another in Santiago prison

Santo Domingo.– An inmate died in a Santiago hospital after being wounded with a bladed weapon by another inmate at the Rafey Men’s Correction and Rehabilitation Center in that city. The General Directorate of Penitentiary and Correctional Services (DGSPC) reported that Sadán Israel Pimentel died while receiving medical attention at the Social Security Hospital of Santiago de los Caballeros, where he was transferred after being wounded with a knife after a fight with fellow inmate Audris Jesús López Torres.

The DGSPC explained that the Sub-Directorate of Intelligence and Internal Affairs of that institution is carrying out the relevant procedures to adopt measures.

He said that the aggressor, who is serving a 30-year prison sentence, was placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in order to deepen the investigations of the case and obtain the corresponding evidence to proceed with his submission to the action of justice for this new criminal act.
