Forensic student obsessed with Dexter admits killing woman in Airbnb 'murder room'

A 20-year-old forensic science student obsessed with the series Dexter pleaded guilty to killing a sex worker inside an Airbnb room he had prepared as a “murder room” in England’s West Midlands.

Benjamin Day lured 24-year-old Maria Saceanu to the property after contacting her through a website. On December 21, he stabbed her 78 times.

A day before the killing, Day had prepared the room by covering the floor and walls with plastic sheets, apparently imitating the methods of the fictional character Dexter. He also obtained items including an apron, a plastic visor and cleaning products that could be used to remove evidence.

After the killing, Day attempted to dismember Saceanu’s body but abandoned the plan after cutting himself.
