Leaders of Operation Discovery 3.0 questioned in Santiago
Santiago. – Under strict security measures, several of those detained in Operation Discovery 3.0 were interrogated this Tuesday at the headquarters of the Santiago Prosecutor’s Office, amid a deployment that has had repercussions in three provinces of the country and several states of the United States.
The operation included 34 simultaneous raids with the participation of 50 prosecutors and 375 National Police agents. The actions took place in Santiago, Puerto Plata and Santo Domingo, in coordination with the Special Division of Investigation of International Organized Crime (Deicroi) and with the support of the FBI.
In parallel, the Federal Bureau of Investigation carried out operations in California, New York, Florida, Maryland, and Missouri, reinforcing the international dimension of the case.
Among those arrested are Óscar Manuel Castaños García, Edward José Puello García, Joel de la Cruz and Gerardo Heriberto Núñez Núñez, who are wanted for extradition by the United States. The raids, carried out during the early hours of the morning, surprised those involved in their residences.
During the operations, luxury vehicles, cash, jewelry, weapons, and liquid marijuana were seized.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office has a legal deadline of 48 hours to request coercive measures, so it is expected that in the coming hours formal charges will be filed against the detainees, identified as members of an alleged international cybercrime and fraud network.
