More than 57% consider that Abinader has been a good president

The most recent national survey by Markestrategia reveals that 57.3% of those consulted consider that Luis Abinader has been a good president, which reflects a mostly favorable assessment of the president.

The study, conducted on October 2, 3, and 4, also places the approval of the current government administration at 52.4%.

The research, carried out with a sample of 1,200 people, according to its technical data sheet, establishes that 38.1% of those surveyed consider that Abinader has been a bad president, while 4.7% do not know or do not respond. Regarding his administration, 43.2% stated they disapproved of it and 4.4% did not express a position.

The evaluation of the president’s performance, the results of which are published in this edition of De Último Minuto, also presents a favorable balance. 17.3% consider that he is doing things “very well” and 38.4% “well”, for a combined positive assessment of 55.7%. In contrast, 25.8% responded “badly” and 14.3% “very badly,” equivalent to 40.1%.

51% believe the country is on the right track

The favorable rating decreases when the survey addresses the general direction of the Dominican Republic. 51% consider that Abinader is leading the country on the right path, while 44% believe he is taking it on the wrong path and 5% do not express a position.

Age differences are also reflected in these results. Among those over 50, 59.6% consider the country’s direction to be correct, while among young people aged 18 to 29, that perception reaches 45.5%. In this latter segment, 48.5% believe that the Dominican Republic is on the wrong path.

Despite the differences in the assessment of the present, expectations for the immediate future maintain a favorable balance. The study establishes that 58.8% view the country’s future with optimism, compared to 38% who view it with pessimism and 3.2% who do not respond.

Action against crime receives broad support

The government’s response to crime is among the best-rated aspects of the survey.

74.8% rate the Abinader administration’s handling of crime as good or very good. Of that percentage, 27% responded “very well” and 47.8% “well,” while 16.6% evaluated it as bad and 5% as very bad.

Likewise, 88.6% support the president’s position that those who are pursued by justice should “turn themselves in or be sought out,” compared to 8.8% who expressed disagreement.

Support for the recent actions of the National Police is also high: 61.3% say they support them a lot and 20.8% somewhat. In contrast, 5.1% say they support them a little and 10.8% state that they do not support them.

However, these results contrast with public concern regarding security. Crime and insecurity are identified by 30.2% as the country’s main problem, ahead of the economy, at 22.6%; high prices and the basic food basket, at 17.8%; and unemployment, at 11.8%.

Continuity of the PRM generates divided opinions

Abinader’s favorable rating does not necessarily translate into an expectation of his party’s continuity in government after the 2028 elections.

Given that possibility, 42.3% consider that the PRM will surely not continue in power, while 25.8% understand that it will certainly remain and 26.8% believe that it could possibly stay. The remaining 5.1% do not know or do not answer.

The results show differences between the current assessment of the president and the expectations regarding the political future of the ruling organization, although the study alone does not allow for determining the reasons for that distance.
