New ID card will have 3 designs, including one for legal foreigners
Santo Domingo. – The president of the Central Electoral Board (JCE), Román Jáquez Liranzo, informed that the new identity and electoral card will have three different designs, as part of the process of modernization and strengthening of the national identification system.
He explained that the first design corresponds to the identity and electoral card for Dominican citizens over 18 years of age, while a second design, identified with the color larimar, will be used as an identity card for those under 16 and 17 years of age, as well as for members of the Armed Forces and the National Police.
As a novelty, a third silver-colored design is incorporated, intended exclusively for foreigners with legal status in the Dominican Republic, which will allow an immediate visual differentiation between the different types of documents.
Jáquez Liranzo detailed that the design of the new ID card integrates patriotic, cultural, and environmental elements, such as the image of Juan Pablo Duarte, the National Shield, the Monument to the Restoration, the güira, the tambora, and the Cigua Palmera, the national bird. These elements, in addition to their symbolic value, are part of the more than 100 security features incorporated into the document, reinforcing its authenticity and reducing the risks of falsification.
The new ID card is made of polycarbonate, a highly resistant material with an estimated durability of up to 25 years, which makes the project an investment and not an expense for the Dominican State.
These details were presented this Monday, January 26, within the framework of the delivery of the first new document to the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader.
