SANTO DOMINGO. – The results of the January 2026 survey by the firm Sondeos place the current senator of the National District, Omar Fernández, as the figure with the greatest citizen support within the opposition organization, above his father, former President Leonel Fernández. Faced with the question of who should be the presidential candidate of the Fuerza del Pueblo in 2028, a 64% of respondents favored Omar Fernández, comfortably surpassing former president Leonel, who obtained only 23% support.

However, despite the broad popular support received by the young legislator, the survey also reveals a perception of internal resistance to change. A 57% of those surveyed believe that Leonel Fernández will not cede the presidential candidacy to his son, compared to 34% who believe a voluntary transfer of leadership is possible.

These data suggest that, although the electorate identifies Omar Fernández as the figure with the greatest electoral projection, the perception persists that control of the party structure remains firmly in the hands of Leonel.
