Police Director oversees operation in Navarrete after Army private is wounded during protests

Santiago.— The Director General of the National Police, Major General Andrés Modesto Cruz Cruz, traveled this Tuesday to the municipality of Villa Bisonó (Navarrete), Santiago province, to supervise the security measures deployed during the 48-hour strike and to order officers to preserve public order, guarantee free transit, and protect the citizenry.

The visit took place after a private of the Dominican Republic Army was wounded during the demonstrations taking place in the town. The soldier was identified as Omar Peña Pérez, who suffered an injury to one of his arms in the midst of the day of protest.

During his tour, Cruz Cruz led a pep talk for the police personnel stationed in the area and urged the officers to act with firmness, professionalism, and respect for human rights, in addition to strengthening preventive efforts to avoid further incidents.

The Police Director also supervised the strategic points where the security device is maintained and spoke with agents, military personnel, and citizens.

Likewise, he instructed to maintain the necessary conditions to guarantee free transit, protect commercial establishments, and allow productive activities to develop normally, within the possibilities permitted by the situation.

“Protecting is a duty and serving is an honor”, emphasized Cruz Cruz, while urging the agents to maintain professional and respectful conduct during the performance of their duties.

Navarrete remains under a broad security operation due to the 48-hour strike called by grassroots organizations, with the presence of police and military agents at various points in the municipality.

The protesters are demanding answers from the authorities regarding various community needs, including improvements to the drinking water supply, electrical service, and the relocation of the municipal landfill.

Cruz Cruz was accompanied during the supervision by generals Jesús R. Tejada Tejada, director of the Cibao Central region, and Ángel García Jaime, director of Intelligence (DINTEL).

The National Police reported that the operation aims to preserve order and guarantee the safety of citizens, ensuring that the actions carried out during the protest remain within the framework of the law.
