Presidential candidates align after Abinader’s warning about proselytizing

Santo Domingo. – After the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, warned publicly that he will not allow proselytizing acts by public officials, several of the so-called “presidential candidates” within the ruling party reacted in support of his declaration. Through messages on their social networks, they reiterated their commitment to management and distanced themselves from any premature political activity from the Government.

The first to express his support was the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, who positively valued the president’s message and urged his colleagues in the government to concentrate on their responsibilities.

In social media, supporters have promoted their possible presidential aspirations with the slogan “The Next”, suggesting their intention to compete within the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) for the 2028 elections.

Another voice that joined was that of Vice President Raquel Peña, who reiterated that she was elected along with the president to serve the Dominican people.

“Our duty is clear: to work to improve the quality of life of all Dominicans. I have always firmly believed that the best campaign is to do a good job”, he wrote on his X account.

In the same vein, the general director of Customs, Eduardo “Yayo” Sanz Lovatón, expressed himself, who recalled the origins of the PRM and reaffirmed that work is the priority. “Our fight was to achieve the changes in progress. The dream continues and it is about working for and for the people. To continue making DR the most important logistics hub in the region,” he expressed.

The reactions occurred minutes after the message published by President Abinader, where he was categorical in saying: “I am a tolerant and democratic President, but everything has a limit. We will continue governing for the people and that is why I tell all the pre-candidates and their coordinators: proselitizing acts to officials are not allowed. If they want to campaign, they must leave their positions.” Abinader seeks to draw a clear line between management and personal aspirations, at a time when internal movements are perceived in the PRM with a view to the 2028 electoral contest.
