The president clarified that he was always valued
Santo Domingo.– President Luis Abinader highlighted this Saturday the trajectory, intellectual capacity and the fundamental role played by engineer Ramón Alburquerque as an advisor to the Government, when expressing his condolences to the family during his arrival at the Memorial funeral home, where his remains are being watched.
He highlighted that he was a man with practically universal knowledge, with training in various areas of knowledge, mastery of about five languages and a recognized specialization in chemistry, energy and strategic issues. Abinader also recalled Alburquerque’s historical role in national democratic life, noting that along with Hugo Tolentino Dipp he was among the first to give speeches for the creation of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), in defense of Dominican democracy. “He was a tireless fighter for the country,” he said.The president defined Alburquerque as “an example of overcoming for Dominican youth”, recalling that he came from the most humble backgrounds and managed to become one of the most influential political and intellectual leaders in the country.
When questioned about why Alburquerque did not hold a formal position in the government, the president clarified that he was always valued and maintained a very close relationship as an advisor. He indicated that in recent years he was in charge of the process of relations with Guyana for exploration projects, a job he led with great technical and political solvency.

As an anecdote, Abinader recounted that during the last official trip to Guyana, Alburquerque intervened in a meeting with that country’s cabinet on mining explorations. After his presentation, the Guyanese president himself, Mohamed Irfaan Ali, asked who he was, and upon learning that he was a Dominican advisor, commented that he would have liked to have him as an advisor in his government as well.
The president finally lamented the death of Ramón Alburquerque, after a long battle against cancer, and assured that his intellectual, political, and human legacy will remain as a mandatory reference in the democratic history of the Dominican Republic. Abinader declared official mourning for Sunday, February 1st, on the occasion of the death of engineer Alburquerque Ramírez, through Decree No. 62-26, issued this Friday. The provision recognizes the public and political career of Alburquerque Ramírez, who died at the age of 76 years.
