Restaurants in provinces on red alert will only be able to operate by delivery

Santo Domingo.– The Ministry of Labor announced this Friday new preventive measures in the face of the passage of the tropical storm Melissa, ordering that restaurants located in provinces under red alert can only operate through home delivery service (delivery), keeping their premises closed to the public until further notice. The provision is part of the actions coordinated by the Government to protect the lives of workers and citizens during the effects of the atmospheric phenomenon.

“Restaurants will be able to offer their services through delivery, but they must keep their establishments closed to the public,” the ministry specified in a statement released on its social media.

In addition, the institution reported that in shopping malls only supermarkets, pharmacies and commercial banks may remain open, while the rest of the businesses must remain closed until the authorities lift the suspension of work. The Minister of Labor, Eddie Olivares, urged both the business sector and the general population to strictly comply with the official provisions, underlining that the fundamental purpose is to preserve human life, which he defined as “a sacred and irreplaceable good”. Olivares also urged citizens to only get information through the official channels of the Emergency Operations Center (COE) and the Dominican Government, and reiterated that collective collaboration will be key to safely facing the effects of storm Melissa.
