School Infrastructure is working on rehabilitating schools affected by floods

Santo Domingo.– The School Infrastructure Directorate (DIE) of the Ministry of Education reported this Monday that it is working at an accelerated pace on the rehabilitation of seven schools that were affected by the floods caused by the overflowing of the Joba River, in several locations in the municipality of Gaspar Hernández in the province of Espaillat. The head of School Infrastructure, Roberto Herrera, today toured the affected schools, where he found that some of the impacted educational centers suffered considerable damage, loss of furniture, files, appliances, expendable materials and other utensils.

Herrera stated, according to a note from his office, that the facilities will be rehabilitated in a week. Among the affected educational centers that are being intervened by School Infrastructure are the Juan Pablo Duarte Basic School in the community El Caimán, which suffered severe damage and the demolition of a part of the perimeter fence; the educational center Martina Villa de Mejía in the La Hoya sector; the Professor Baudilia López Primary School in Mata de Guanábano, and the El Caimán educational center, among others. “Today we have come to respond to the damage caused by the floods in this area, where we have more than 5 affected schools. We are following an instruction from President Luis Abinader, who was here yesterday personally supervising the situation and from the Minister of Education, Luis Miguel De Camps”, said the official. Meanwhile, the director of the Juan Pablo Duarte educational center, Elizabeth Pérez, highlighted the government’s rapid intervention in providing an effective response to resolve the damage caused to the schools in Gaspar Hernández, which will contribute to restoring teaching as soon as possible.
