Santo Domingo.- The investigative journalism program “Bajo el Foco”, produced by De Último Minuto TV and broadcast by El Seis under the conduction of Wendy Mora, presented an in-depth analysis of the crimes committed by members of the armed forces and law enforcement agencies and the management of the assets seized by the State, generating an important national debate on institutional responsibility and transparency.
The research team, composed of journalists Yuleisy Ovalle and Ángela Ramírez, addressed in detail tragedies related to domestic violence perpetrated by active or retired military personnel and the situation of assets seized in cases of corruption, drug trafficking, and money laundering.
Military Crimes
The research led by Ovalle exposed shocking cases, including:
Ana Josefa García, first medical lieutenant who in August 2024 murdered her six-year-old daughter, an act witnessed by another of her children.
Fabio Montero Verigüete, retired captain of the Dominican Navy who in March 2025 killed three family members before committing suicide.
Samuel Mora Alcántara, Army captain who in July 2025 murdered his ex-partner and her mother, and then took his own life.
The program highlighted the relationship between these events and factors such as access to firearms, domestic violence, and the lack of psychological follow-up within military institutions. Experts consulted recommended periodic psychological evaluations, prevention protocols, and training on gender and emotional management.
Management of seized assets
In the second part, Ramírez presented the investigation on the “crime inventory”, which includes 179 properties, 208 vehicles, luxury items, and boats under State custody, with a value exceeding 3.3 billion pesos. These assets, managed by Incabide, will be auctioned in processes that seek transparency and social use of the seized resources.
Call to action
The delivery of “Under the Spotlight” questioned the State for the supervision of its members and the administration of seized assets, urging to improve internal controls, transparency, and accountability.
