U.S. President Donald Trump said Friday that Europe has agreed to release a “massive amount” of its diesel reserves as fuel prices continue to rise. Trump announced the move on Truth Social and said the process would begin immediately.

The announcement came after the United States urged its European allies to help reduce global fuel prices by releasing part of their emergency reserves. Washington had reportedly asked the European Union to release 120 million barrels of diesel over the next six months.

The pressure comes as diesel supplies have been affected by disruptions linked to the war involving Iran and reduced availability of Russian fuel on global markets. Russian President Vladimir Putin has also pointed to attacks on energy infrastructure and shipping as factors contributing to the diesel shortage.

According to reports, the United States has been particularly frustrated with France and Germany over their response to previous agreements to coordinate the release of fuel reserves. European countries are now moving toward releasing additional stocks as the diesel market remains under pressure.
