Catherine O’Hara, actress from ‘Home Alone’ and ‘Beetlejuice’, dies at 71 years old
Los Angeles (USA), – Catherine O’Hara, the veteran actress who starred in ‘Home Alone’, ‘Beetlejuice’ and ‘Best in Show’, has passed away at the age of 71, as confirmed this Friday by the representative of the Canadian star to the specialized media Variety.
According to the same publication, the actress died after a brief, unspecified illness, at her home in Los Angeles (California, USA).
O’Hara is remembered for having played Kate McCallister, Kevin’s mother, played by Macaulay Culkin, in the nineties Christmas comedy ‘Home Alone’, but her career began on television with the comedy series ‘SCTV Network’.
Her participation in that series earned her her first Emmy. The second one she would win in 2020 thanks to her participation in the series ‘Schitt’s Creek’, where she played the eccentric and dramatic matriarch of the Rose family, Moira Rose.
Born in Toronto in 1954, O’Hara was known for her improvisational skills for comedy. After ‘SCTV’, the actress starred in films such as ‘After Hours’, by Martin Scorsese, or ‘Beetlejuice’, by Tim Burton.
The actress worked with Burton again, lending her voice to the film ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’, and was a frequent collaborator of Christopher Guest, with whom she worked on mockumentaries such as ‘Best in Show’, ‘For Your Consideration’, among others.
In recent years, O’Hara had also participated in some of the most recognized series of the moment such as ‘The Last of Us’ or more recently in ‘The Studio’, the Apple TV+ series where she played Patty Leigh, a former head of a film studio who helps Matt Remick (Seth Rogen) run one of the most important studios in Hollywood.
