Céline Dion made an emotional return to the stage Saturday in Paris, where she broke down in tears in front of thousands of fans who had waited six years to see her perform again.
The Canadian singer performed at the Plenitude Arena before around 30,000 spectators, opening the show with “On ne change pas.” The concert marked the beginning of a 26-show residency and one of the most significant moments in her recent career.
“I had promised not to cry, I don’t keep my promises,” Dion told the audience, according to EFE. “These are tears of joy. I’m so happy to see you.”
Variety also reported part of her message to the crowd: “I’m so happy to see you all. I missed you. I’m going to sing for you without crying,” she said before continuing the concert.
The comeback carries particular significance following the health challenges Dion has faced in recent years. In 2022, she revealed that she had been diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that causes muscle stiffness and spasms. The symptoms affected her ability to walk and sing, forcing her to cancel performances.
