Keffe D sentenced to 40 years to life in prison for Tupac Shakur’s murder

Duane “Keffe D” Davis has been sentenced to 40 years to life in prison for the 1996 murder of rap icon Tupac Shakur. Davis appeared in a Las Vegas courtroom on Tuesday, October 12, less than two months after being convicted of first-degree murder.

Judge Carli Kierny sentenced Davis to 20 years to life for first-degree murder, followed by a consecutive 20-year sentence for using a deadly weapon. Before announcing the sentence, the judge emphasized the impact of taking a person’s life and depriving a family of its future, specifically referencing Shakur.

In August, a jury found Davis guilty of orchestrating the killing in retaliation for an earlier altercation involving his nephew, Orlando Anderson, Tupac and members of Death Row Records at a casino. The confrontation took place on the night Shakur was shot near the Las Vegas Strip.

Although Davis was not accused of firing the fatal shots himself, prosecutors argued that he supplied the gun and was present in the vehicle during the drive-by shooting that killed Shakur at age 25.

Davis has indicated that he plans to appeal the verdict. With sentencing now complete, he can formally begin the appeals process.
