The night of July 11, 2025, will be etched in Dominican musical memory with a spectacle charged with emotion, nostalgia, and grandeur. “Rubby Pérez Infinito”, a tribute to the 50-year career and musical legacy of “The highest voice of merengue”, celebrated in the main hall of the Eduardo Brito National Theater. The event began at 8:49 p.m. under a solemn and elegant atmosphere, with the renowned artist Carlos Alfredo Fatule taking on the role of master of ceremonies. Fatule, with heartfelt words, recalled the life and career of Roberto Antonio Pérez, christened in the artistic field by Fernando Villalona as Rubby Pérez, whose powerful voice and charisma left an indelible mark on Dominican music before his tragic death in the early hours of April 8, in the Jet Set tragedy. In a combination of talent and technology, Rubby himself appeared on screen, lending his immortal voice to the piece “O Sole Mío“, drawing applause from those in attendance.
The musical opening was as majestic as it was emotional, the violins set the solemn tone of the tribute, which gave way to Milly Quezada and Frank Ceara, who performed the classic “No voy a llorar“, marking the beginning of an evening in which art was the language of farewell and celebration.
Milly Quezada continued with the songs “Buscando tus besos,” “Cobarde” and “Contigo.” Joselito Trinidad joined the Queen of Merengue to perform “Ave de paso.” Then, Alex Bueno revived the joy with “Pato robao.”
One of the most moving moments was that of Peña Suazo, who performed “Valió la pena” and addressed the audience with the phrase: “My friend was a happy man and that’s how I want you to always remember him. May God have him in glory. Great and incredible man”.
The night continued with the deep voice of Michel “El Buenón” and his interpretation of “Missing You”. The most emotional and anticipated moment of the night was by Ana Beatriz, Rubby Pérez’s youngest daughter, who, along with Jandy Ventura, offered a heartfelt version of “Sangre en mi cuerpo“. They continued with “Préstame a mi padre”, a song that brought to mind the great Johnny Ventura and Rubby Pérez, both deceased and fathers of the young performers. The emotion overflowed when Laura Taveras, Rubby’s niece, performed “Don’t forget me”. From Puerto Rico, opening the international artists lineup, Joseph Fonseca paid tribute with the hit “Hipocresía”. Then, the always energetic “Mujer de Fuego”, Olga Tañón, made the room vibrate with “Tonto Corazón”, “Tu vas a volar” and “Volveré”, the latter with the multifaceted Carlos Alfredo Fatule. Pavel Núñez returned to sing “Hazme olvidarla”, accompanied again by classical ballet dancers. Ramón Orlando, author of the emblematic song “Perro ajeno”, performed it in honor of his friend of a thousand battles. The climax arrived with the powerful union of Alex Bueno, Toño Rosario and Joselito Trinidad in “15 500 noches”, a musical celebration of Rubby’s life and one of his last recorded songs. Finally, at 10:30 p.m., Zulinka Pérez, Rubby’s daughter, went on stage with Miguel, to sing “De color de rosa”.“Aquí están tus hijos, viejo. Te amo”.
