Mexico.- The film ‘No nos moverán’, by the Mexican Pierre Saint-Martin, will represent Mexico in the next edition of the Oscars in the U.S. and Goya Awards in Spain in 2026, the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences (AMACC) reported this Tuesday.
This decision drives the film to obtain a nomination in the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars and for Best Ibero-American Film at the Goya Awards.
The film, starring actress Luisa Huertas, was awarded at the last edition of the Ariel Awards of Mexico with four awards in the categories of Best First Film, Best Actress, for Huertas’ stage work, Best Supporting Actor, with the performance of José Alberto Patiño, and Best Original Screenplay, by Saint-Martin and Iker Compean Leroux.
With this black and white work, the director makes his way into the world of feature films to tell the story of Socorro (Huertas), a lawyer disillusioned with the Mexican justice system who has spent 56 years looking for the person who killed her brother, Jorge, in the Tlatelolco massacre that occurred on October 2, 1968.
The development of the film, premiered during the Cinélatino Festival in Toulouse, France, has a personal connection with the filmmaker, who, when writing the script, was inspired by the experiences of his mother and his uncle, who also died in 1968.
On that date, the Mexican Army and its paramilitary group, the Olympia Battalion, suppressed a peaceful demonstration in the Plaza de las Tres Culturas in Tlatelolco during the presidency of Gustavo Díaz Ordaz, between 1964 and 1970, causing the death of more than 300 students.
‘They will not move us’ has aroused emotion among the national public, since during the Ariel ceremony last weekend, Huertas dedicated the award received to the more than 130,000 people missing in Mexico and to the mothers who are looking for them.
The next Goya Awards gala will be held on February 28 in Barcelona (Spain), while the 2026 Oscars will take place on March 15, 2026 in Los Angeles (USA).
