A 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck Colombia this Thursday, August 27, and was strongly felt in Cali and other municipalities in the region, prompting preventive evacuations from some buildings in the city center.
According to the Colombian Geological Service, the earthquake occurred at 10:25 a.m., with its epicenter in Istmina, Chocó, at a depth of 43 kilometers.
In Cali, workers and residents evacuated several buildings as a precaution, including the Carvajal building in the city center. Preventive evacuations were also reported at buildings near Plaza de Cayzedo.
Emergency crews and local authorities activated inspection protocols to assess possible damage. According to the report cited by El Tiempo, no injuries or structural damage were reported in the city.
However, some roads in central Cali, including Carrera 5, were closed as a precaution due to risks involving certain structures.
The earthquake caused concern among residents, who are still on edge following the strong earthquake that struck the region on August 10.
