7-year-old girl rescued in Bogotá after throwing handwritten pleas for help from window

A 7-year-old girl was rescued by police in Bogotá after throwing handwritten notes from a window asking for help, prompting passersby to alert authorities.

The incident occurred in the Galán neighborhood of the Puente Aranda district. Officers with the Metropolitan Police’s Childhood and Adolescence Unit responded to the scene, entered the home and found the child alone inside the residence.

Authorities said the girl had been left by herself since the morning, although they have not determined how long she remained without adult supervision or the circumstances surrounding the alleged abandonment. She was placed under the protection of the appropriate child welfare authorities, which launched a process to restore her rights while the investigation continues.

Police have not identified those responsible for the girl’s care. Investigators are working to determine whether the child was abandoned and whether any legal action should be taken against the adults involved.
