A teacher receives a brutal beating from a student’s mother and could lose an eye

A primary school teacher in Argentina received a brutal beating from the mother of a student at the exit of a school and could lose an eye. The incident occurred at noon on Wednesday outside Primary School 84 Tte. Benjamín Matienzo in the Sarmiento neighborhood, in the town of San Martín, province of Buenos Aires. When the teacher, in charge of second grade, was leaving the institution and was about to get into her husband’s car, a woman accosted her and began to hit her; one of the punches hit the educator’s eye, reports TN. “She was hitting her in the face, they couldn’t separate them,” recounted another teacher from the school, who witnessed the beating. Several colleagues of the teacher, as well as her husband, intervened to stop the student’s mother. The motive for the attack is still unknown. The teacher was transferred to a health center, where she received medical assistance and was later discharged; however, she is not out of danger. “The teacher has a compromised eye, she could lose it”, said one of her colleagues.

Mobilization

Given the facts, from the San Martín Teaching Unity Front, they called for a strike and a demonstration. The mobilization took place on the morning of this Thursday, under the slogan ‘Violence does not enter the school’, and headed to the District Headquarters. “We defend the school and teachers, and we need effective measures to be taken to protect them and guarantee their safety,” the organization stated in a statement, cited by the local media SM Noticias. Also, a teacher from the district, according to the same media outlet, said: “We are fed up with the violence in schools, from students and parents, and many times from our own colleagues who hold management positions and who look the other way in the face of these situations, and on several occasions they accuse us of not having group control for not knowing how to handle these situations, which clearly exceed us.” It is expected that on Friday, at the same school, a meeting open to the entire community will be held to address what happened.
