An Arkansas police officer died while rescuing his fiancée just hours after proposing to her during a canoe trip on the Elk River in Missouri.

Fred Marsh, 24, an officer with the Rogers Police Department, was enjoying the outing with his fiancée and friends when she began struggling to stay afloat. Marsh jumped into the water to help her but was swept away by the current.

Emergency crews launched a search operation, and his body was recovered the following day. Authorities said Marsh died after successfully saving his fiancée.

His death has deeply affected family members, colleagues, and the local community. The Rogers Police Department praised Marsh’s dedication to serving others, while those who knew him remembered him as a hero who gave his life to save someone else.
