São Paulo.- At least nine people died and seven others were injured after a strong explosion occurred this Tuesday in an explosives factory in the metropolitan area of Curitiba, in southern Brazil, official sources reported.
The explosion occurred shortly before six in the morning (9.00 GMT), at a factory of Enaex Brasil, a company that manufactures explosives for mining.

The number of deaths was confirmed on the night of this Tuesday by the governor of Paraná, Ratinho Junior, in a note on social media in which he lamented the accident.
“I deeply regret the nine deaths recorded in the explosion in Quatro Barras, confirmed at the beginning of the night,” the governor stated in his message.
Until then, no authority had confirmed the deaths and only referred to missing persons.
Authorities used dogs and drones in the search for survivors, while a bomb squad worked at the scene to examine the state of other explosives.
According to local media, the explosion caused damage to homes and businesses in the area, located on the outskirts of the municipality of Quatro Barras, in the metropolitan region of Curitiba, capital of the state of Paraná.
