Ballistic school backpack developed to protect children during attacks

A ballistic backpack has been developed in Ankara, Turkey, designed to give students a protective shield they could use during a school attack.

The backpack’s developers say it can provide protection against several types of ammunition, including 9mm, .357 Magnum, .44 Magnum and 5.56mm rounds.

The design incorporates ballistic protection into an everyday school item, allowing students to carry books and school supplies while having an additional layer of protection available in an emergency.

The development has also raised questions about the environment children are growing up in, as protective equipment traditionally associated with military or security settings is being incorporated into school supplies.

The backpack reflects an increasingly visible concern over school safety and how families and institutions can respond to the possibility of armed attacks in educational settings.
