Santo Domingo.– While Haiti continues to be mired in a deep crisis of violence and ungovernability, the renowned gang leader Jimmy Chérizier, alias “Barbecue”, released a video with new threats, this time directed at Dominican citizens present in Haitian territory.

The audiovisual, published on social media, shows the leader of the G9 federation of gangs walking on a treadmill, from where he issues warnings that further raise the tension amid the deployment of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS), led by Kenya, with the aim of stabilizing the neighboring country.

These statements are made in a context where the international community continues to react with concern to the seriousness of the Haitian situation, which has been denounced on multiple occasions by the Dominican Government, due to the risks it poses to regional security and, in particular, to the common border.

The figure of “Barbecue”, a former police officer turned criminal boss, has gained notoriety as one of the main faces of the gang violence that has besieged a large part of Port-au-Prince, the Haitian capital.

So far, Dominican authorities have not issued an official response to these new threats, although surveillance in the border area remains reinforced, while the international deployment in Haiti and the possible repercussions that could arise from these statements are being monitored.
