A police operation in Chile, with support from the National Customs Service, led to the arrest of three Chilean men, including a biochemist accused of leading a group that manufactured and sold synthetic drugs, including Popper.
The investigation lasted a year and a half and began after customs officials detected more than 100 shipments of supplies used to package the liquid substance.
Authorities said the biochemist allegedly operated a clandestine laboratory at a property in Quintero, in the Valparaíso region.
Investigators seized drugs and other products valued at about $35 million Chilean pesos and detected a $60 million peso transfer linked to one of the alleged operations.
