Cuba claims that the occupants of the intercepted boat had “terrorist purposes”

Havana.– The Cuban Ministry of the Interior stated this Wednesday that the ten occupants of the speedboat from the U.S. intercepted in its territorial waters “intended to carry out an infiltration for terrorist purposes.” The boat, according to a previous statement from the Cuban authorities, had illegally entered territorial waters. Its crew began firing on the vessel of the Border Guard Troops, which unsuccessfully ordered them to stop in order to proceed with their identification.

Four of the boat’s crew were shot down by Cuban forces and the other six were injured. In addition, a Cuban officer had to be treated. The Ministry of the Interior indicated that all the injured are Cubans residing in the U.S. It also reported the seizure of “assault rifles, handguns, handmade explosive devices (Molotov cocktails), bulletproof vests, telescopic sights and camouflage uniforms.”
