Bogotá.- The far-right Colombian presidential candidate, Abelardo de la Espriella, expressed his support this Saturday for Keiko Fujimori, who will contest the Presidency of Peru against leftist Roberto Sánchez in a runoff election scheduled for this Sunday.
“Keiko, like me, is facing a radical left-wing candidate in Peru and tomorrow will experience a decisive day for the region’s democracy. I send a fraternal greeting to the Peruvian people, with the wish that they choose well for the health of their Republic and for the future of all of Latin America,” wrote De la Espriella on his X account.
During a conversation with Fujimori, via video call, De La Espriella highlighted the trajectory and the “commitment to democracy” of the candidate, whom he greeted as the next “president of Peru”.

“It is time for Peru to have a president of your qualities, of your patriotism and your commitment. You have been a tireless fighter for democracy,” expressed the Colombian candidate, who like Keiko Fujimori was the most voted in the first presidential round in his country.
De La Espriella stated that Colombia and Peru have the opportunity to work on a joint agenda based on strengthening trade relations, defending freedoms, and the frontal fight against organized crime.
For his part, Fujimori expressed his gratitude for the support and highlighted the “courage” of De la Espriella: “You are putting many things at risk (…) I congratulate you and, above all, I congratulate your family because when one enters politics, the sacrifice is shared by everyone”.

De la Espriella, who will contest the Presidency of Colombia against leftist Iván Cepeda in a runoff on June 21, told Fujimori that he hopes both will reach the Government to “strengthen ties between two brotherly countries”.
The presidential elections in Peru are decided this Sunday with the runoff that will be contested by Fujimori and Sánchez, a race in which the winner will become the ninth president of the Andean country in ten years, as a decade plagued by political instability comes to an end.
More than 27.3 million Peruvians are called to the polls to determine whether to return Fujimorism to power after a quarter of a century or if, on the contrary, a leftist project is resumed around the symbolic figure of the imprisoned former president Pedro Castillo (2021-2022).
