The acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, visited Hernán Gil, the 43-year-old man who remained trapped for eight days under the rubble of a building that collapsed in La Guaira, the state most affected by the earthquakes of last June 24.
In a message posted on social media, the acting leader expressed: “Today I embraced a miracle: Mr. Hernán Gil.”

“Seeing him alive reminded me that, when solidarity, faith, and commitment come together, hope always finds a way”, mentioned Rodríguez.
“My deep gratitude to the Costa Rican Red Cross, the Venezuelan Red Cross, the brigades from Chile, the United States, El Salvador, Mexico, and Portugal, as well as our rescuers, Civil Protection, and the FANB. Thank you for making this reunion with life possible,” he stated.

Gil, who was rescued this Thursday, remained for eight days under the rubble of the Galerías Playa Grande building, in the state of La Guaira, one of the many buildings that collapsed due to the double earthquake that shook the country last June 24.
To date, a total of 6,462 people have been rescued, according to the most recent official balance released. The report indicates that the earthquakes have left a toll of 2,595 dead and 12,400 injured.
In a press conference held hours before her visit to the hospital where Hernán Gil is being treated, the acting president assured this Thursday that the fundamental goal, eight days after the earthquakes, remains saving lives.
“We have not closed the search and rescue phase, we are still in that process”, because “there is a mother crying there, a father crying, a brother, a sister, a grandfather, a grandmother, an uncle who are suffering for that family member. And we are not going to rest.”
