Mexico City.- A low-pressure zone with cyclonic potential intensified into Tropical Depression Two-E, giving rise to the second tropical cyclone of the 2026 season in the Mexican Pacific, and it is expected to make landfall as a tropical storm, the National Meteorological Service (SMN) of Mexico reported this Sunday.
“Tropical Depression Two-E has formed, south of the coast of Guerrero,” the institution noted in its most recent advisory.
“It is located 155 kilometers (km) south of Acapulco, Guerrero, and 165 km west-southwest of Punta Maldonado, Michoacán,” the SMN indicated in a statement.
He specified that the system is recording maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (km/h), gusts of 75 km/h, and is moving northeast at 9 km/h.

Given this data, the SMN established a prevention zone for tropical storm wind effects from Lagunas de Chacahua, Oaxaca, to Tecpan de Galeana, Michoacán.
The system that could intensify by this Sunday afternoon into Tropical Storm Boris arrives two days after the formation of Tropical Storm Amanda, which did not affect Mexican territory due to its distance.
“It is expected that by this Sunday afternoon, around 6:00 PM, it will already have the characteristics of a tropical storm, meaning it will continue its gradual intensification, such that it will record estimated winds of 65 km/h, with gusts of 85 km/h,” stated the head of the National Meteorological Service (SMN) of Mexico, Fabián Vázquez Romaña.
“It is expected to make landfall around midnight or the early hours of Monday morning, with gusts of 95 km/h and sustained winds of 75 km/h, meaning it will enter land over the territory of Guerrero with tropical storm intensity,” he added.
Vázquez Romaña specified that “the main meteorological threat of the system will be the rains” and for this Sunday torrential rains between 150 to 250 millimeters (mm) of precipitation are expected over the coast of Guerrero, and intense rains ranging from 75 to 150 mm are expected to extend to the coast of Oaxaca.
At the end of April, Mexican authorities reported that in Mexico, the possible formation of up to 36 named cyclones is expected in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans during the 2026 season, of which seven could reach categories 3, 4, and 5. Of that figure, between 18 and 21 systems could be generated in the Pacific and between 11 and 15 in the Atlantic.
