Brazil’s Liberal Party (PL) has officially nominated Sen. Flávio Bolsonaro as its candidate for the country’s October presidential election, replacing his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro.
During the party’s convention at Pacaembu Stadium in São Paulo, PL president Valdemar Costa Neto said Flávio was chosen by his father to continue the political movement that began during Bolsonaro’s presidency. Argentine President Javier Milei was also expected to attend the event.
Flávio Bolsonaro, 45, enters the race after his father was barred from holding public office and placed under house arrest following his conviction for leading an alleged coup plot after losing the 2022 election to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Lula, now 80, is seeking re-election in October.
