Frank Carpio, the most viral judge on social media, passes away

Judge Frank Carpio, who had gone viral on social media for his charisma, sensitivity, and vocation for service, died at the age of 88 after a prolonged battle against pancreatic cancer. The news of his cancer diagnosis was announced in December 2023, and his death was confirmed today through a statement published on his official Instagram account (@therealfrankcarpio).

“Loved for his compassion, humility, and unwavering belief in the goodness of people, Judge Carpio touched the lives of millions through his work in the courtroom and beyond. His warmth, humor, and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him,” notes the text circulated on social media.

Francesco Carpio, the magistrate’s given name, for almost 40 years, listened to the people who came to the main municipal court of Rhode Island, United States, and always made sure to show them mercy.

Frank served as a judge of the Providence Municipal Court since 1985 and became known worldwide due to the television program Caught in Providence, which was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in 2021. 

“In his honor, may each of us strive to bring a little more compassion to the world, as he did every day,” the statement concludes.
