Among the alternatives under discussion is the possibility of establishing, before February 7, a shared Executive, in which the prime minister would coexist with a collegiate presidential figure or influenced by one of the current members of the Council.Although the official documents that created the CPT explicitly state that its mandate concludes on the indicated date and cannot be extended, several advisors consider that they could still play a key role in the country’s leadership beyond that limit.
According to the Haitian media, some members of the CPT have initiated individual contacts with political parties, civil society organizations and other relevant actors, with the aim of securing support to continue being linked to the Executive. A source cited by Le Nouvelliste warns that sectors of the international community would favor leaving the government solely in the hands of the prime minister, as happened previously with Ariel Henry, but notes that this option could provoke new tensions and social protests. The newspaper also indicates that the prolonged political instability could affect the effective deployment of the Gang Suppression Force, whose full operation is scheduled for August. Installed on April 25, 2024, the CPT failed to meet its main goals, including restoring security and organizing elections before the expiration of its mandate. However, some of its members seek to remain at the center of power amid a political scenario still marked by uncertainty.
