The team of U.S. President Donald Trump is concerned about the actions of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, after in recent days attacked Syria and bombed a Catholic church in the Gaza Strip (Palestine), Axios reported on Sunday Axios citing several people familiar with the matter.
“Bibi [nickname for the leader of the Hebrew country] acted like a madman. He bombs everything all the time. This could undermine what Trump is trying to do,” said a White House official, referring to the efforts to achieve peace in the Palestinian enclave.
Another informant noted that the feeling is that there is something new every day, while a third explained that there is growing skepticism within the Trump Administration about Netanyahu, a feeling that he has his finger too quick on the trigger and is too disruptive. “Netanyahu is sometimes like a child who doesn’t behave,” he commented.
Six U.S. officials told Axios that, despite the ceasefire negotiated by the U.S. that stopped the recent escalation in Syria on Friday, the week ended with the White House much more alarmed by Netanyahu and his regional policies.
“The bombing in Syria took the president by surprise and the White House. The president doesn’t like to turn on the television and see how bombs are dropped in a country where he seeks peace and in which he has made a monumental announcement to help with reconstruction,” pointed out another official of the North American country.
According to one of the sources, several high-ranking US officials have complained directly to the occupant of the White House about Netanyahu’s actions, including US envoys Tom Barrack and Steve Witkoff.
“U.S. officials who spoke with Axios warned that Netanyahu’s luck and Trump’s goodwill could run out,” the article concludes.
