The information was released by Deputy Minister of Security, Rommel Martínez, who explained that the arrest was carried out through an operation conducted by National Police agents in the village of La Ceibita, located in the municipality of Tocoa, in the Bajo Aguán area.
According to the official, this arrest is part of the ongoing investigations to fully clarify the case and find all those responsible for the massacre that occurred on May 21 in Rigores, Colón.
“A second person involved in the violent death of these 19 people has been arrested. The capture took place in the village of La Ceibita in the Bajo Aguán,” stated Martínez during statements given to the media.
According to Security authorities, William Izaguirre is accused of having had direct participation in the massacre, for which he is currently at the disposal of the courts of justice, where he must face the corresponding legal process for the crimes of which he is accused. The capture was executed in the village of La Ceibita, in the Bajo Aguán. Rommel Martínez confirmed the arrest to the media.
The vice minister also assured that police operations and intelligence actions will continue to be carried out in different sectors of the department of Colón and other areas of the country with the aim of capturing more people who could be related to the multiple crime.

The capture of Izaguirre occurs a few days after the arrest of Carlos Alexis Mencías, known by the alias “Gato Negro” (Black Cat), who was arrested on June 2nd and identified by authorities as the alleged mastermind of the massacre.
At that time, the Minister of Security, Gerzon Velásquez, confirmed the arrest of Mencías and assured that investigations were advancing rapidly to identify everyone involved in the violent act that left dozens of Honduran families in mourning.
The authorities consider that both arrests represent important progress within the investigative process; however, they acknowledge that other possible participants still need to be identified and arrested. The massacre left a toll of 19 people dead in Trujillo, Colón. The suspect has already been referred to the courts of justice.

Martínez reiterated that the commitment of the Secretariat of Security is to ensure that all those responsible face justice and to restore tranquility to the population of the country’s Atlantic zone.
“The intention is to ensure the peace and tranquility of the people”, stated the vice minister.
The Rigores massacre caused a strong national commotion due to the high number of fatalities and the violent manner in which the events occurred.
Since then, different sectors of Honduran society have demanded forceful responses from the authorities and concrete actions to combat criminality in the Bajo Aguán region.
Relatives of the victims have also requested that the investigations do not go unpunished and that all material and intellectual authors involved in the tragedy be punished. The National Police maintains operations in different sectors of Colón. “Gato Negro” was previously captured as the alleged mastermind.
Meanwhile, security forces maintain a presence at different points in Colón as part of the surveillance and search operations related to the case, considered one of the bloodiest episodes recorded in Honduras in recent years.

Security analysts consider that this case represents a significant challenge for the authorities, due to the complexity of the criminal structures operating in the northern part of the country and the constant violent events reported in the department of Colón.
The investigations continue under seal, so it is not ruled out that in the coming days the authorities will provide new details or announce more arrests linked to the Rigores massacre.
