A 29-year-old man in Gainesville, Georgia, allegedly broke through a wall separating his apartment from a neighboring unit and attacked a 15-year-old girl, according to local authorities.
Police said Obed Reyes created a hole in the drywall separating his closet from the neighboring apartment on August 5. Once inside, he allegedly grabbed the teenager, repeatedly struck her and threatened to rape her.
The girl managed to reach the building’s hallway, where her screams alerted witnesses who called 911. Police officers arrived shortly before 10 p.m. and reportedly witnessed the attack in progress before arresting Reyes.
According to police, the teenager had been inside a room with two younger children, ages 5 and 7, when Reyes entered the apartment. He faces charges including burglary, aggravated assault, attempted rape, kidnapping and two counts of cruelty to children, as well as an immigration-related charge.
