Washington.- U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio insisted this Monday that Cuba is a “failed state” and warned that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump will not allow the island to become a base of operations against the country’s national security.
“As long as Trump is president, we will never allow Cuba to become a base of operations against the United States,” Rubio stated during an interview with the Fox News network.

The secretary maintained that the situation on the island represents a threat to Washington, using for at least the third time this year the term “failed state” to refer to Cuba and linked it then to U.S. national security.

The president, however, said on September 26 that he is confident in reaching an agreement with Havana and that a military operation will likely not be necessary.
