U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said any meaningful political transition in Venezuela must include broad representation from across Venezuelan society, specifically highlighting opposition leader María Corina Machado.
Speaking about Venezuela’s future, Rubio said reconciliation would be essential for the country to move forward.
“For Venezuela to achieve the reconciliation the country needs to move forward with all its other projects, every element of Venezuelan society must be represented,” Rubio said. “And obviously, María Corina represents an important element of that.”
Rubio’s remarks underscore the U.S. position that any future political process in Venezuela should include key opposition figures alongside other sectors of society.
