More than 15 people lose their homes and five dogs die in fire in Santa Tecla, El Salvador

Five families were affected by a fire that destroyed three homes in the canton El Matazano, El Centro hamlet, district of Santa Tecla, La Libertad Sur. The disaster, registered in the afternoon, left more than 15 people homeless and caused the total loss of their belongings.

The Fire Department, in coordination with the Metropolitan Agents Corps (CAM), Green Cross, the Medical Emergency System and Municipal Civil Protection, managed to control the flames and prevent them from spreading to other houses. During the rescue efforts, two people were taken to the San Rafael Hospital due to nervous breakdown. There were no human victims, although five dogs died in the incident. The authorities enabled a temporary shelter to protect those who lost their homes, while debris removal and damage assessment were carried out, for the moment the extent of the losses is unknown. The Fire Department and rescue teams quickly controlled the incident in Santa Tecla, preventing its spread to other homes.

The effort focused on preventing the fire from spreading to the adjacent sectors of the formal market,” explained members of the Fire Department at the scene.
