A 44-year-old man survived after climbing the Manhattan-side tower of the Brooklyn Bridge, stripping naked and jumping into the East River, authorities said.
Police identified the suspect as Galymzhan Abaildayev, who allegedly scaled the bridge, planted flags and removed his clothing before leaping into the water. The incident forced authorities to temporarily shut down the iconic bridge, causing major traffic disruptions in lower Manhattan and Brooklyn.
Abaildayev survived the fall and is now facing multiple criminal charges. Authorities have not released a motive for his actions.
